Thomas Jefferson believed deeply in the power of public education to drive progress through the generations. In creating the University of Virginia and in his lifelong advocacy of free universal primary education for the peoples of Virginia he battled not only for the individual’s right to know. For Jefferson, an educated public was a necessary pillar of democracy itself.

In the Jefferson Institute education program, we strive too for education, intense and inspiring, with a clear purpose – to enable and to empower peoples and nations so that they might live more freely.

We create and deploy digital tools to improve both formal and informal education.
